Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

Update on Legionnaires’ Cluster Associated with a Hotel in Spain

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Welcome to the Westgate Medical Practice. The doctors and staff at the Westgate Medical Practice in Dundee aim to provide a very high standard of patient-centred healthcare. We run a number of clinics for the management of chronic diseases and offer a wide variety of other medical services which are outlined elsewhere on the website.

We hold a General Medical Services (GMS) contract with Tayside NHS Board, details of this contract are available from the Practice Director, Mr S Riddell.

Disabled Access

The consultation areas and certain facilities in West Gate Health Centre are accessible to the disabled. However, if you require assistance please ask any of the staff. Patients requiring help accessing or exiting the building should inform Reception staff when making your appointment.

The History of the Practice

In May 2006 the two Practices, namely Drs Watson, Goudie & Russell and Drs Dorward, Neville, Nicoll, Lowe and Austin, merged to form what is now known as Westgate Medical Practice. In April 2010 Dr Watson retired from General Practice and was replaced by Dr Bryan Whittingham. Both former practices had worked at Westgate Health Centre since its opening in October 1979.

The building is located in close proximity to a major Teaching Hospital and is well served by public transport. Westgate Medical Practice continues to be actively involved with the training of Junior Doctors and other Health Care Professionals.
